Tamás Waliczky: Sunlight in Mong Kok Viewed from My Window, 2022

Hong Kong is a city of skyscrapers. In 2021, I lived in the Mong Kok district, and from my apartment on the 19th floor I could see the opposite buildings every day while working. I could observe them for a long time, at all times of the day.
After a while, I started to took photos the different buildings in different lighting. I made this animation from these photos. I cut out the buildings one by one from the original photos and placed the cut-out houses at different distances from the virtual camera in a 3D software.
After that I created the animation the camera as it is looking around and observing the different buildings. The camera sees the world in a strange, inverted perspective system. The further away a building is, the greater its displacement relative to the camera.
I had recordings of each building and the sky at several times of the day, with various lighting conditions. I alternate these shots in the animation to show the change of lights in different periods.

Computer animation installation.
The original video is in 4K (2160 x 3840) resolution, 3 minutes and 10 seconds, played in loop.

Should be presented on large LCD screen or video projection.
No sound.
