Tamas Waliczky: "Swivel Camera", 2017, demo IMAGINARY CAMERAS "Crafted with the precision of engravings, these computer-generated visions of a photographic bestiary live somewhere between the follies of a 19th century inventor and the foresight of a 21st century disruptor. These imagined apparatus hark back to the early days of photographic and cinematic invention that was a hotbed of visionary engineering. Tamas renders this in parallel to today's surge of discoveries that are conjuring the future of our new imaging technologies. His cameras are a testament to the 'deep time of new media', to use the terminology of the theorist Siegfried Zielinski. Tamas draws a direct line of enquiry that stretches from the camera obscura to the optical and electronic machinations of today." (Jeffrey Shaw, Opening speech, Hungarian Pavilion, Biennale Arte 2019) The graphics exist as fine art digital inkjet prints on Hahnemuhle PhotoRag 308 paper in two sizes (60x42 cm and 119x84 cm) or as 100 x 100 cm MEGAtrans prints in lightboxes. Edition of 5 + 2AP The Imaginary Cameras serie contains 5 computer animations as well, showing 5 instruments as virtual 3D objects. Images copyright © 2016-2019 Tamás Waliczky
